Seeking Oklahoma VolunTourists!

I went to a social media seminar a couple of weeks ago and the convener gave us one word to write on the bathroom mirror – R-E-L-E-V-A-N-T. In today’s world of ever-increasing content generation – whether it is in increments of 140 characters or multiple pages – it is a requirement that whatever you put out into cyberspace had better be relevant.

This being said, I received a request from the associate editor of Oklahoma Magazine earlier this week seeking a resident of Oklahoma who is over the age of 50 and has been a voluntourist in the last 365 days. They are interested in interviewing said individual during the week of 12 July 2009.

Back to the point of relevance, it might be helpful if voluntourism operators and suppliers create a list of folks from a variety of home destinations who would be willing to speak with members of the media regarding their experiences. If you have compiled such a list, send an email to vt[at]voluntourism.org with the home destinations of the folks who have gone on your trips along with age brackets, e.g., 18 – 24, 25 – 34, or 55+, and your contact information. When these requests come in, it is an easy step to send off your contact information to the writer, editor, or publisher. Streamlining the process allows for your program to be “relevant” in the context of the request at hand – the most important point of all!

I was very interested in hearing from Oklahoma Magazine that they were looking for a voluntourist with the past year from Oklahoma. I am not currently a resident there but was born in Oklahoma City and attended school there until I was 15 years of age. I am now 54. I unfortunately have not volunteered before but am willing to interview with them if they would like to speak with me.
